February 8, 2012:  Dean Pisake Lumbiganon welcoming Dr. Baltasar Mayo Pérez from the Instituto de Productos Lácteos de Asturias (CSIC), Principado de Asturias-SPAIN.  Discussions focused on developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for further cooperation between CSIC and the MD-KKU. http://emerging.kku.ac.th/news8-2-55.htm

Also present:  Associate Dean for International Affairs, Associate Professor Witoon Prasertchroensuk (MD), Associate Professor Weerapong Lulitanond (PhD) (Department of Microbiology) Director of the Research and Diagnostic Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases, KKU; and Mr. Marutpong Punya (PhD candidate).

February 9, 2012:  Dr. Mayo Perez was on the dissertation examining committee for Mr. Marutpong Panya, whose dissertation is entitled, “Construction of a recombinant Lactobacillus casei, expressing nucleocapsid and ectodomain matrix 2 protein, derived from influenza A virus”. Marutpong underwent 11 months of training in Spain (April 1, 2010 – February 28, 2011) on research laboratory technology under the supervision of Dr. Mayo Parez.

On other days, Dr. Mayo Perez will deliver lectures on “Genetic engineering in Lactic acid bacteria”; preview Marutpong’s dissertation; meet with faculty to discuss potential areas for collaborative research; and, discuss ways our two schools can conduct further exchanges.
