KKU holds public hearing with community leaders


The Student Affairs Division of Khon Kaen University held a public hearing on April 26, 2012 to sound out the opinions of community leaders who live around the campus in an attempt to uncover opinions on the University’s social responsibilities.


KKU President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratanasirichai presided over the Opening Ceremony of the public hearing. He was also accompanied  by Asst. Prof. Likhit Amatayakong, Vice President, Asst. Prof. Dr. Anuchar Nilpraphan, the Assistant to the President,  Asst. Prof. Dolchai  Srisamran, Assistant to the President, and Mr. Somnuek Pinthong,  the Director of Student Affairs  Division, KKU administrators, community leaders,  and representatives of  Tambon Sila Administration Organization, Tambon Samran Administration Organization, Tambon Ban Ped Municipality, Ban Nonmuang village headman, Nong Waeng community leaders, and Khon Kaen Municipality officials.


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratasirichai, KKU President noted the effect of the large number of students who live around the campus in large numbers and expressed concern that there may be problems and a negative impact on nearby communities. He added that it was important for the school to listen to the voices of their neighbors to help with future planning and developing guidelines for preventing problems and misunderstandings and that the public hearing was an integral and important part of that process.


The President added that KKU normally listens to their problems and that significant issues raised by community leaders in the past have been discussed by KKU staff so that they can work together to help each other take responsibility in solving issues.

Students Affairs   Division Director Somnuek Pinthong added that the results from this joint meeting together with community leaders would be used for education quality assurance of the Students Affairs Division as well as encouraging the strengths of the communities.

He remarked that KKU was a part of the local community and that its role is to help develop area communities.


One of the main missions of the Students Affairs Division is to get to know more community, and student problems, and their negative impact when live together in the same community, he added.
