Cooperation between Thai and Lao ophthalmologists extended


On May 14, Prof. Pisek Lumpiganont, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, KKU was on hand to welcome Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sing Menorath, the Vice President of HealthSciences University of Laos, who was alsoaccompanied by Dr. Vanphanom Sychareun, Dean of the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies; Dr. Sypheth Sysaleumsack, Vice Director, Eye Hospital; Dr. Khamkhoune Holanouphab, Lecturer, Department of Ophthalmology; and Dr. Phonesavanh Chasanh to the meeting room of the Faculty.

The Lao delegates visited the Faculty of Medicine, KKU to seek more information on the possibility of a joint medical doctors training program arrangement for the local village doctors between the Lao university and KKU.

Assoc. Prof.  Olarn Suwan-aphichon, the Head of Ophthalmology Department, Assoc. Prof. NipohnSaiwat, the Chairman of Graduates Studies Curriculum, Ophthalmology Department, and Ajarn Dr. Phaosuthi Suphasai, Vice Chairperson of the course curriculum were also on hand to welcome the Lao visitors to the joint meeting.

Assoc.Prof. Dr. Sing thanked the Faculty of Medicine, KKU for their support in the academic training course for local village doctors in Laos, especially the curriculum on infant medicine, ophthalmology, obstetrics, and gynecology under the project of Residency Training Program.

He said today‘s consultative discussion is expected to help extend academic cooperation and research in Ophthalmology. The program’s extension was approved and there will be further one year courses for village doctors, clinic consultations, as well as elective short courses in the joint teaching and training course with University of Health Science lecturers, the Graduates Studies of University of Health Sciences.

This joint academic cooperation is just one more step forward in the co-operation among the countries located in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, he added.
