KKUIC provide academic services to prepare the northeastern people for the AEC in 2015 KKUIC realizes the importance of the ASEAN Economic Community so we provide academic services such as workshops and English camps, for teachers and youth in the northeast to prepare them for the AEC in 2015. In 2015, Thailand will move towards the ASEAN Economic Community. The first priority is to develop and prepare human resources to have higher potential, especially their English language skills and their understanding about ASEAN. KKUIC realized the importance of this matter so we held a workshop on “English Teaching Integrated with ASEAN Context” on the 21st and 22nd of May 2012, at 9th floor, the Information Center Building, which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yupin Techamanee, Dean of KKUIC, presided over the opening ceremony and invited Mr. Steven Graham, Mr. Timothy Swihart and Mr. Roderick Lucas to be the lecturers. The main purpose of the workshop was to enlighten the participants to integrated English teaching with ASEAN context. They were shown how to apply ASEAN content to O-Net style questions, and how to design comics with ASEAN content. There were also presentations and demonstrations given by the participants and these had an ASEAN content as well. The workshop’s topic was found to be so interesting, that instead of attracting a target group of only 60 more than 130 participants attended this workshop. In addition, KKUIC also encourages and supports the activities of the rural community to prepare the youth for their future role in ASEAN. We sent Ms.Nonglak Yuttasinsewee, Public Relations Officer, to be a trainer for the English Camp, Get Ready for ASEAN, which was held by English Teachers Club, Udonthani. The purpose of this camp was to practice student’s basic English skills for communication, leadership, life skills and teamwork integrated with the ASEAN background information. Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yupin Techamanee talked about KKUIC providing academic services to the community so that we promote and encourage their projects. Continuously following up on the effectiveness of the knowledge they gained, especially English proficiency for communication, in order to make sure they can apply it in real life. As we have human resources that are highly experienced in teaching English, we believe that we can help develop the locals in the community to prepare themselves confidently for any changes in next 3 years which may happen as a result of the Preparation for the ASEAN Community in 2015.
