KKU hosts a Baisri Soo Kwan welcoming ceremony for freshmen

On June 2, at the Golden Jubilee Convention Center, KKU Student Development and Alumni Relations Division along with the KKU Student Union hosted the traditional welcoming ceremony for the new school year with SombatTriwatsuwan, Khon Kaen Governor and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kittichai Triratanasirichai, the President of KKU presiding together over the welcoming ceremony.


Governor Sombat gave a warm welcoming speech to the incoming freshmen and administrators.  Then the President of the KKU Alumni Association, KKU lecturers, students and freshmen and around 5,000 people turned up for the welcoming party which was designed in the traditional Isaan style.


The ceremony began with the Bai Sri Soo Kwan or traditional welcoming ceremony then dance and holy thread tied  up around the freshmen’s wrists by the KKU President, administrators, senior lecturers and senior students for the new students.


Asst. Prof. Likhit Amatayakong, Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relationssaid this ceremony was held annually as a part ofwelcoming ceremony for the freshmen under the theme of creative work following KKU policy.


Bai Sri Soo Kwan is a traditional ceremony ofthe Isaan or Northeastern region. It is believed that any one that takes part in this ceremony will be blessed with auspicious occasion and good luckto him or her or their family members. “So as to make the freshmen appreciated and understand more about the Isaan culture this ceremony is regarded as a way totransfer love and warm welcomes from the lecturers, alumni and seniors students to the new students,” the Vice  President said.
