George Washington University students on exchange program to KKU


Medical students from George Washington University were very impressed with the warm hospitality shown to them as they were welcomed to their exchange visit to Khon Kaen University’s Medical Faculty.

On June 19, Assoc. Prof. Witoon Prasertcharoensuk, the Associate Dean for International RelationsAffairs, Faculty of Medicine, KKU, was on hand to welcome Ms. Elizabeth Brunn and Ms. Kathleen Bren, second year medical students from George Washington University in the United States.


They cameto KKU to attend education courses at the Department of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology and The Department of Orthopedics,running from June to July 2012.

This is a part of the Student Exchange Program which is collaboration between KKU and the School of Medicine at George Washington University under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two institutions in 2012.

Medical student Elizabeth Brunn graduated with a BA from Colgate University in the field of Cellular Neuro Science in 2009.  She has experience in working on research of breast cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering and as an assistant medical dermatologist in New York City, prior totaking the courseof Doctor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in 2011.

Elizabeth has also studied and gained the academic and practical experience in countries abroad, such as Kenya and South Africa.

Kathleen Bren successfully completed a BS in Animal Science from Cornell University in 2008. She has experience in research work in the field of the autoimmunity research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She also has studied in Australia.

This was the first time for both Elizabeth and Kathleen to attend an exchange program held at KKU, Thailand.

Both Kathleen and Elizabeth said they were very impressed with the hospitality of Thai people and were looking forward to learning more about Thai food, culture and way of life. They said the warm welcome they received from lecturers, personnel and students made them feel at home and helped them adjust to living in Thailand, they both said they plan to learn to speak Thai before they return to the United States.
