KKU’s Faculty of Science students win prizes inThailand Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012
On June 18, the KKU student team from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science was selected as one of the last 12 teams from universities nationwide to go to thefinal round for the trophy of Her Royal Highness Princes Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
During the competition, one of three teams representing KKU students was named “Kapom”, and took second runner- up and the Best Nokia Special Award.
The team received prizes worth more than 30,000 baht plus a mobile phone; the Nokia Lumia 800, the latest phone from Nokia valued at approximately 50,000 Baht. The team members were Khomde j Puadphud, (team leader), Nothapol Saengkla, Ms. Kritiya Sangkhapat, and Ms. Phannapha Nanphosri, and with Dr. Chakchai So-in, as advisor.
The team with the projectcalled the “Heart Beat” system which monitors heart beats via the mobile phone running a Windows 7 platform; it has integrated electrodes that receive the signal from the heart so that the data can be monitored by medical experts at the hospital.
This system also supports the Mobile Doctor for medical services so that doctors could use the mobile phone for monitoring to help patients in case of a medical emergency when they are not in the hospital.
Apart from this, the “heart beat” system also supports notification to the doctors as a warning system to be sent to the central system or to the hospitals. The alert can also be used for patients who fall, and it will send an emergency alert to a nearby hospital or medical center with specific maps and location information so that doctors can find the patient immediately.
The award announcement ceremony was held on June 7, 2012 by Microsoft Thailand, Nokia, Bank, Software Park, and Chan Wanich as the main sponsors at the Plaza Hotel, Bangkok. These students work has brought great pride to KKU and to the Faculty of Science.
