KKUIC Students Joined Boon Bang Fai Rocket Festival PDF Print E-mail

     On June 23rd, 2012, 26 students, mostly foreigners, of Khon Kaen University International College (KKUIC) joined the Bang Fai Rocket Festival. This festival was conducted by Sub-district Ban Fang Municipality, Muang, Khon Kaen. The objectives of the event are to preserve the local custom, to let people present their ability in art, culture, and local wisdom, to enhance harmony between the municipality and community, to enhance people to share cooperation and teamwork among themselves, and to promote tourism in the Sub-district Ban Fang Municipality area.

     The Rocket Festival, or "Boon Bang Fai" in Thai, is usually held at the beginning of the rainy season when farmers are ready to cultivate their paddy fields. The festival is popularly celebrated in the northeastern provinces of Thailand. The celebration is an entreaty to the rain god for plentiful rains during the coming rice planting season.

     All students who joined the festival dressed in ASEAN country costumes to join the parade. This event enable students to learn about and gain experience in the Thai local festival.
