A Huge Step Forward for Music Therapy Profession PDF Print E-mail

On July 9th, 2012, Professor Pisake Lumbiganon, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, presided over the conference entitled, “Music therapy:  A new Approach in Medicine” held in the MD-KKU Alumni Meeting Room at the Academic & Conventions Building.

 

Professor Pisake and Associate Professor Witoon Prasertcharoensuk, Associate Dean for International Affairs, welcomed the invited speakers (a) Dr. Suzanne Hanser, Chair, Department of Music Therapy, Berklee College of Music, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, faculty member for continuing medical education courses at Harvard Medical School; and former president of the National Association for Music Therapy and the World Federation of Music Therapy and (b) Ms. Kana Kamitsubo from the Kana’s Therapeutic Music Studio, based in Queens, New York, and a consultant in establishing the first Thai research group for music and medicine in Khon Kaen. 

 

 ‘The Faculty of Medicine has an integrative strategy to promote research and knowledge innovation.  Practically speaking, this means developing the supportive elements which will lead to knowledge innovation; simply because it is cutting edge.’ Professor Pisake said. 

 

This academic conference served as a venue and opportunity for:

(1) developing the use of music as a restorative, healing therapy in medicine;

(2)  initiating international academic cooperation in the field of Music Therapy; and,

(3) integrating Music Therapy into the curriculum at the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.

 

On this occasion, extending a warm welcome to the delegates were: Associate Professor Sanguansak Thanaviratananich, Head, Department of Otorhinolaryngology; and, Assistant Professor Patarvoot Vatanasapt.
